Christopher Hitchens (1949–2011) – dziennikarz, pisarz, krytyk literacki. Sprzeciwiał się wojnie w Wietnamie i amerykańskiemu imperializmowi, krytykował politykę Henry’ego Kissingera i Billa Clintona. W drugiej połowie życia poróżnił się ze swoim lewicowym środowiskiem, oskarżał je często o nadmierną tolerancję, polityczną poprawność i brak rzeczywistej woli rozwiązywania współczesnych konfliktów. W roku 2003 poparł inwazję na Irak, co odebrano jako zdradę jego wcześniejszych ideałów. Znany był z ostrych wystąpień przeciwko religii; na zaproszenie Watykanu wziął udział w procesie beatyfikacyjnym Matki Teresy, przedstawiając argumenty przeciw beatyfikacji. Journalist and essayist Christopher Hitchens's polemic on the political career of American president Bill Clinton. Hitchens examines Clinton's psychology and how it affected the then-president's record in war, acts that led to accusations of sexual abuse, his skill at "triangulation" and his relationship with his wife Hillary.

Discussing the book on the April 28, 1999, episode of Charlie Rose, Hitchens said he wrote the book to criticize what he perceived as Clinton's political corruption and conservatism, seeing them as mutually reinforcing. He also criticizes many American liberals for their support of Clinton.
