Jocelyn_Phoenix17 апреля 2026I guess I’m not getting something, because this book has surprisingly high ratings.
The premise is kind of cool: a judge who is also a serial killer. It was interesting to see how his job would affect his killings and how his killings would affect his job. We get none of that.
The guy ends up being a lame loser who basically just kills people who wrong him. He does come across some of them in the course of his work as a judge but that’s the only connection and it’s basically meaningless - he could have had any other job. Him being a judge doesn’t in any way stand in the way of his extracurricular activities - he can nope out of it whenever he can with no consequences. And somehow, over all these years no one in all of the FBI and police force has managed to connect his nearly identical crimes, to track him across the country, or to get any wind of anything sus on his part.
Jeri is kind of an interesting character but she’s basically nonexistent outside of her obsession. We’re shown some family interactions but they feel forced and are boring. Lacy is quite boring as well. All I remember about her is that she has a brother who flies a plane - and I’ve tried.
The pacing of the book is so bad. A lot of it is awfully slow with small bursts of things going too quickly to develop the story well.
The ending is underwhelming.
Overall, I couldn’t care less about the people and the events of this book, it was another “I only finished it because it was an audiobook and I hand chores to do” for me.2 понравилось
