It touches on many things that are all part of one cohesive tapestry: the potential hardships and horrors of motherhood and how it is unacceptable to even hint at them in society unless you add “but of course it’s all worth it”, nature vs nurture, parent - child relationships, people handing down their trauma to their children through generations, sibling jealousy, the role of the father in the family, the hardships of having an unsupportive partner, the societal pressures of being a mother, the societal pressures of being a woman…
The book is simultaneously deeply personal and relatably universal. It doesn’t really give many answers, but it made me think and feel A LOT.
Also, mad respect to mothers, but if it were possible to make me want to have children even less, this book would have done it.
