  This study of an unexpected pregnancy and the equally unexpected ensuing worries and delights. It may appear to be a targeted reading material for females, the more so since the protagonist, Rosamund Stacey, is also the narrator and dominates the story to a great extent – yet since it is high on psychology, The Millstone can be found engrossing by various students of human nature. So the personal success of the novel seems to hinge on the fact how well the reader will relate to the girl in point, how closely he or she will be able to immerse themselves into the lifestyle and the mindframe. I, for one, found the narration quite satisfactory and at times even captivating, with a nicely written-out and fairly thrilling finale. A good effort, well up in the Drabble rate.
