Coriander is an important Spice crop grown throughout the world and botanically known as Coriandrum sativum Linn. belongs to the family Apiaceae. The experimental site was located at Main Experiment Station, Department of Vegetable Science, Narendra Deva University of Agriculture and Technology, Faizabad (U.P.). The eight treatments were evaluated in randomized block design with three replications. The experiment showed that Application of FYM 25 % (2.5 t ha-1) + Vermicompost 75 % (3.75 t ha-1) displayed better response to plant growth, yield and quality with their all attributes. On the basis of economic analysis Application of FYM @5 t ha-1 + Azospirillum @1.5 Kg ha-1 given maximum cost: benefit ratio and found most feasible for cultivation of coriander.

Enzymes hold the future of biotech sector by contributing in research and industries. Enzymes obtained from microbes offer advantages over the enzymes obtained from plants and animals. Obtaining enzymes from plants and animal is a costly process while its easy to rear microbes in the artificial media under modifying physical and biochemical conditions and they show potential results. Since there is continuous need for finding new potential enzymes from microbe which offers immediate use in industries as well as in bioremediations. The spectrum of amylase application includes food, detergent, pharmaceutical, leather, textile, cosmetic, paper industries clinical, medical, analytical chemistry, distilling industries and bio-fuels industries. Keeping all these things in mind, the work was focused on finding enzymes from microbes with resistance towards pesticides, high salt concentrations, antibiotics and heavy metals for bioremediations and biofuel productions. Amylase produced by multiresistant microbes can be used for treatment of effluents with high salinity, pesticides contents and presence of heavy metals containing starch or cellulosic residues in pollution control mechanism.

The nanoparticles have enormous applications in every field of our life. Nanotechnologist Prof. Rameshwar Bhargava of USA motivated us in the area of medical nanotechnology. Authors have tried to unravel their application in pharmaceutical and cosmeceutical industry especially as antimicrobial agent through synthesis, characterization, mechanism of action and formulations of various nanoparticles.

Mosquito borne diseases are an important cause of morbidity and mortality. Personal protective measures (PPM) been advocated as an effective tool in protection from mosquito bite. There is paucity of information about the extent of use, cost, side effects and perception of people about personal protective measures against mosquitoes. A community based cross sectional study was conducted in Delhi using a pre tested semi structured questionnaire to assess the knowledge, usage, reasons for usage/non-usage including side effects and average monthly family expenditure on personal protective measures used. Statistical significance was determined using chi square or fisher’s exact test. Most common personal protective measure known to participants was coils followed by liquid vaporizers. A little less than two thirds of participants were using anyone PPM. Liquid vaporizers were most commonly used method. Most common perceived side effect was headache followed by cough, sore throat, allergy and eye irritation. It is concluded that further research is needed to develop safe, effective, convenient to use and cheap personal protective measures.

Mango (Mangifera indica Linnaeus) is known as king of fruits in India and is considered as one of the most delicious, exotic, nutritious and attractive fruit. This fruit is recognized as a good source of ?-carotene, vitamin A, vitamin B complex, vitamin C, nutritive minerals, digestive sugars and trace elements. However, insect pest problem is one of the major limiting factors in mango production. In the above perspective, this book comprehends the growth, development, reproduction and spatial distribution pattern of different life stages to generate basic data helpful in understanding the population dynamics and management of mango fruit flies (Bactrocera spp., Diptera:Tephritidae).

Strawberry is one of the most delicious and refreshing soft fruit of the world. It is mainly grown in temperate climate but varieties are available which can successfully be cultivated in subtropical or even in tropical climate as well. Growth, yield and quality of strawberry fruits are highly influenced by the application of different bio-fertilizers in combination with inorganic fertilizers. Thereby, the present research has been conducted to identify the suitable combination of inorganic and bio-fertilizers for getting higher yield of quality fruit as well as their longer storage life. The results of the present study revealed that the plant growth, yield and fruit quality parameters significantly increased with the application of (NPK+ Azotobacter+ PSB). The study also exposed that the availability of soil nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in strawberry crop ecosystem improved with the application of (NPK+ Azotobacter + PSB). While the minimum physiological losses and minimum spoilage losses of fruit were recorded with the inoculation of bio-fertilizers (Azotobacter+ PSB) only. We hope both researchers and growers would obviously be benefitted from the findings of this study.

Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) the most common pulse crop, is exposed to attack by many insect pests, amid them Helicoverpa armigera is the major limiting factor for higher yield of the crop. Thereby a field experiment has been carried out to develop an effective pest management strategy for the crop. Side by side a laboratory experiment has also been conducted to study the growth and development of 3rd instar larvae of H. armigera along with the level of parasitization at natural condition. The finding revealed no significant difference in mean larval length, larval and pupal phases as well as pupal weight in different chickpea cultivars. The varietal screening for both years of the study revealed that BG-256 was less vulnerable to H. armigera. The efficacy of different bio-pesticides was evaluated against H. armigera in chickpea. The larval population was significantly lower in spinosad 2.5 SC @ 0.5 ml/l. The field experiment on the relative ability of various insecticides against H. armigera revealed that indoxacarb 14.5 SC @ 0.5 ml/l as the most effective one. Intercropping chickpea with linseed (2:2) resulted in lower larval populace and less pod damage for both years of study.

Cancer, an abnormal and uncontrolled cell division, has engulfed the lives of unlimited people till date. Etoposide and Teniposide are podophyllotoxin derivatives and have been used clinically for treatment of refractory testicular tumor and cancer. These compounds arrests cell growth by DNA topo II inhibition, which causes double strand breaks in DNA and known as non-interclating topo II inhibitors. They have many side effects, such as myelosuppression, poor water solubility, and the development of resistance so modification is done on it at various sites. Podophyllotoxin contains a five-ring system. Modification of the A-ring gave compounds having significant activity but less than that of Etoposide, whereas modification of the B-ring resulted in the loss of activity. E-ring is essential for its anticancer activity and D-ring in lactone form is preferred for better activity. The introduction of double bond in C-ring lowers the activity but modifications at the C-4 in C-ring with bulkier groups enhance anticancer activity. NK-611, GL-331 and Etoposide phosphate are water soluble derivatives of Etoposide with potent anticancer activity and are currently in clinical trials.

Two major insect-pests viz. Diamond Back Moth (DBM) [Plutella xylostella] and two species of aphid such as Indian Mustard Aphid [Lipaphis erysimi] and Green Peach Aphid [Myzus persicae] are found detrimental for the cultivation of cabbage [Brassica oleracea var. capitata]. Different bio-pesticides were reported to be effective in suppressing the population of DBM and aphids infesting cabbage. Thus an attempt has been made in the present investigation to find the efficacy of different bio-pesticides on leading insect-pests of cabbage. Due to minimum infestations of these pests after the application of different bio-pesticides such as cow urine, garlic + chilli extract, neem based insecticide like vanguard, Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki (B.t.k) etc. and incorporation of different inter crop components like garlic (Allium sativum), coriander (Coriandrum sativum), African marigold (Tagetes erecta), fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum), tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) and French bean (Phaseoulus vulgaris) the highest yield as well as benefit cost ratio was received. We hope this book will help to all researchers and growers for growing the safest cabbage for human consumption.

The northern region of India comprising the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh had been explored for the insect pests belonging to the order Lepidoptera through extensive and intensive field surveys. These field surveys had been conducted over different seasons on all the vegetable crop groups in the entire region so as to being out the species, population and ecological diversity. The field surveys had covered 109 localities in the entire region and throughout the length and breadth, over 49 districts in the seven states. The faunistic surveys had revealed that there are 49 species, and their diversity is enormous not only in terms of species but also their populations. It is also evident that the results of the study will be applicable not only to the northern region of India but also the whole of India and also other parts of the world. All species had been reoriented towards the salient taxonomic details along with descriptions. The study comprises of 1277 illustrations. The unique feature of the study is the integration of taxonomic aspects with field biology and ecology details.

There are many Indian Writers writing today but Salman Rushdie is different from his contemporary writers and also his unique approach in examining the jumbled and fragmented identity of the people living in the sub-continent. Rushdie’s own situation is very peculiar in the context of colonial reality in which he was born. He is not rooted in one culture or one way of life. He was born in Bombay, felt ‘exiled’ in Pakistan and emigrated to England. So there is an impact of three different cultures on him. Rushdie’s novels, therefore, do not remain simply an objective rendering of contemporary history of these two countries. Apart from exploring the identity crisis of the characters, his novels turn out to be a severe indictment of the colonialists and the indigenous ruling classes in South Asia. The major themes of Salman Rushdie’s works are politics, his own concept of history, its inter-relationship with the individual and the sense or personal as well as national identity in the colonial milieu. Rushdie has set a different aim.

The problem of random vibrations Induced Dynamics of Train-Track- Fastening System is of considerable practical interest because each part of fastening system i.e. elastic clip, Liner and pad are modeled as a lumped mass with a linear spring and a viscous damper. The track and fastening system are supported and fixed over sleepers which are laid on an elastic or flexible foundation. It is important to predict vehicle dynamic response using realistic track models. Results obtained from the above will be useful to predict the stress, strain, deflections and fatigue behavior of the fastening system for train on Randomly un even track. The same approach can further be used for general induced response analysis of other flexible vehicles and tracks. Some examples are aircraft in ground Runs like taxi, take off and landing, aircraft operation from carrier decks, automobiles and sea vehicles.

In recent years, industrialization has been observed to be the main culprit globally, responsible for the pollution of the atmosphere. This has not only caused global warming, but also affected the transmissivity of the terrestrial region and thereby, severely affected the amount of solar radiation received by the earth. This work is an outcome of an attempt to study the different techniques/models for the estimation of global solar radiation on horizontal surface. The emphasis is on an understanding of the subject as well as on the different methods of calculation. The subject matter has been distributed in to five chapters. In Chapter 1, the introduction of the problem has been outlined. In Chapter 2, detailed formulations for the estimation of solar radiation by sunshine hour duration models have been presented. In Chapter 3, the temperature parameter is taken under consideration for the estimation of solar radiation. In Chapter 4, estimation includes all the other models which include climatic parameters such as latitude, altitude, transmissivity, albedo, humidity etc. In Chapter 5, possible areas of future work have been discussed.
