Mother Dear

The narrator tells of being a child with a mother who was "dour and hard, the sergeant-major of the house." The six children discuss ways to kill her, but can't think how. An abrupt change occurs which reshapes the lives of all the family, the father and children included. Some of the consequences are good, others are not.
