3 classic, too obvious even

A bit out of topic here, but after some psychological analysis I really started to understand why Orgon reacted the way he did when Damis told him of Tartuffe’s wrongdoing. Orgon seems to have a weird moral compass according to which everyone but Tartuffe is of lower status as they sin and are interested in the earthly things and desires. Thus they are not worthy of being considered or even taken seriously. He is convinced that Tartuffe is this piety and innocence in flesh and thus he has always been bullied and targeted by everyone else who envy and hate him. Thus it is no surprise that Orgon wanted to protect Tartuffe, because now Tartuffe is not alone and has Orgon by his side. In his eyes Tartuffe can never stand up for himself, thus he always takes the blame for himself( which is why the inverse psychology worked perfectly here), so he got furious at his son for making him do that. Thus to ensure he will never be bullied again by his family full of sins and no kind heart, he decided to announce him his son and give him all his inheritance.

He also seems to not have any romantic feelings for his wife (maybe because he decided it is also an earthly and secular desire), because even the thought of someone confessing his love to her did not cross his mind nor make him jealous.
