Nabokov was not interested in conventional academic analysis-for-the-sake-of-analysis, in mapping a specific work and its specific world onto an axis of abstract ideas. He stressed the particularity and sensitivity of the imagination: if you see and smell and taste the world with your own eyes, nose, tongue, if you palpate it with your own imagination, you can extract the happiness lurking in life.
