О премии

Премия «Золотой воздушный змей» - литературная награда, ежегодно присуждаемая международной организацией детского писателя - Обществом детских писателей и иллюстраторов (SCBWI), в знак признания выдающихся достижений в области детской литературы.

Премия, учрежденная в 1973 году, была единственной детской литературной наградой, присуждаемой авторам детских книг и художникам их коллегами.

С 2014 года коллегиальное жюри стало присуждать ещё одну коллегиальную Премию «Хрустальный змей».

Номинируемые на получение премии книги должны быть написаны или проиллюстрированы членами SCBWI и представлены либо издателями, либо отдельными лицами.

Победителей выбирает четыре группы жюри, каждое из которых состоит из трёх детских писателей и иллюстраторов, чьи собственные работы относятся к оцениваемой номинации.

В каждой номинации выбирается один лауреат Премии «Золотой змей» и почетная книга. Книги-победители включаются в пресс-релиз, объявление на веб-сайте SCBWI и в социальных сетях. На книгах помещаются золотые наклейки.

С 2006 года победитель в каждой номинации получает денежный грант в размере 2500 долларов США, а также 1000 долларов США для пожертвования выбранной им некоммерческой организации. Авторы книг почёта получают 500 долларов США, а также 250 долларов на пожертвования.

Авторам и иллюстраторам также оплачивается поездка в Лос-Анджелес для участия в церемонии награждения на ежегодной летней конференции SCBWI в августе.

Кроме денежного вознаграждения лауреаты получают золотой медальон с изображением ребенка, запускающего воздушного змея.
