О премии

Книжная премия штата Огайо «Огайоана» - вторая из старейших и одна из самых престижных государственных литературных премий в США. Почти каждый крупный писатель из Огайо за последние 80 лет был удостоен этой чести.

Премия впервые была вручена в 1942 году. Она присуждается Библиотечной Ассоциацией штата Огайо за художественную и научно-популярную литературу, книги для детей и подростков, поэзию и книги об Огайо или жителях штата.

Авторы должны быть коренными жителями Огайо или прожить в Огайо не менее пяти лет. Также жюри может рассмотреть книгу об Огайо или о жителях Огайо, написанную не жителем Огайо.

Номинируемые книги должны быть получены библиотекой штата в течение календарного года, предшествующего году вручения награды, и иметь дату авторского права в течение последних двух календарных лет. Выдвижение кандидатов проходит до 31 декабря каждого года.

Читатели имеют возможность сделать так, чтобы их голоса были услышаны. Лауреат, получающий премию в номинации «Выбор читателей», определяется в ходе открытого онлайн-опроса. Обычно в опросе участвует около 4000 человек.

Наконец, вручается и специальный приз для начинающих писателей — Уолтера Рамси Марвина Гранта (Walter Rumsey Marvin Grant). Приз назван в честь второго руководителя Огайо. Грант в размере 1000 долларов присуждается прозаику из Огайо в возрасте до 30 лет, который ещё не опубликовал ни одной книги.
