О премии

Книжная премия Роберта Ф. Кеннеди (Robert F. Kennedy Book Award) была учреждена в 1980 году на средства, полученные от продажи бестселлера Артура М. Шлезингера-младшего Robert Kennedy and His Times .

Ежегодно премия вручается некоммерческой организацией по защите прав человека «Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights» тем книгам, которые, как сказал Артур М. Шлезингер, «наиболее точно и убедительно отражает цели Роберта Кеннеди — его заботу о бедных и бессильных, его борьбу за честное и беспристрастное правосудие, его убежденность в том, что приличное общество должно гарантировать всем молодым людям равные шансы, и его вера в то, что свободная демократия может исправить неравенство сил и возможностей».
