О премии

Детская книжная премия "Африкана" - ежегодная американская награда для авторов и иллюстраторов лучших детских и юношеских книг об Африке, опубликованных или переизданных в США.

Награда была учреждена в 1991 году организацией Africa Access и Советом по работе с общественностью Ассоциации африканских исследований (ASA ).

Премия преследует три цели:
- поощрение публикаций детских и юношеских книг, которые способствуют лучшему пониманию африканских обществ и проблем;
- признание литературного мастерства;
- признание исследовательских достижений выдающихся авторов и иллюстраторов.

В настоящее время премия присуждается в двух номинациях:
- Лучшие книги для маленьких детей (Best Books for Young Children);
- Лучшие книги для детей старшего возраста (Best Books for Older Readers);
