This book examines the Greenspan and Bernanke Federal Reserve which imposed an unwanted monetary system that favours Wall Street and is not beneficial for the US voter and the global community. Global confidence in the health of the US economy, and therefore the US Dollar, could plunge because of continued large US current-account deficits, an unstable banking sector, expansionist monetary policy and a financial regulation system that is lacking in credibility. The US monetary system is broken, and the public purposes for which it is supposed to exist are being thwarted. US banks and other financial institutions blew up a vast speculative bubble of financial products leading up to the crash in 2008. The deeply undemocratic process in the US monetary system is still directly supervised by the Federal Reserve. The US system, a quasi-independent and weakly accountable central bank is supposed to be responsible for all aspects of monetary policy. The Federal Reserve policy of stirring up inflation and devaluing the Dollar is called Inflationspolitik in German, synonymous with government deception and theft.

The Genesis of Argument Structure follows the acquisition of argument structure and the verb phrase from the earliest stages of language production of one monolingual child learning Peninsular Spanish. Utilizing longitudinal data from the “Irene” corpus of the Child Language Data Exchange System (CHILDES), specific attention is paid to three areas of emergence: 1) argument-specific verb types, such as unaccusatives, unergatives, and transitives; 2) various morphological forms of the verb produced by the child, particularly tensed and non-tensed forms such as imperatives and infinitive expressions; and 3) the position of overt arguments. The data of this study suggest that arguments may be acquired in the order of Theme, Agent, and Experiencer. Earliest verb types produced were Theme-oriented. These were followed by Agent-only structures with no overt arguments. Also important is the early correlation found between morphological form and degree of agentivity of the verb, where verbs with Agent subjects exclusively appeared in the imperative and Theme-oriented verbs appeared primarily as tensed forms. When overt arguments did start to appear they did so postverbally.

The book focuses on the approaches of the United Kingdom and German governments who have rather different stances towards regional economic policy. In this context, the administrative differences in implementing the Community Support Frameworks (CSFs) are also important. It is particularly interesting to compare the German (federal) vs. the British (unitary) systems of government which provide two different approaches in implementing regional policy. The successes and failures of the CSFs in resolving regional problems in Saarland and Industrial South Wales will also be addressed. The reform of the Structural Funds has had three consequences for power shifts between the European Community, the nation state and the regions. Firstly, it has caused more power to be directed away from the national level towards the European Community level. Secondly, it has increased European Community involvement in national and regional affairs, and the regional level has acquired more power in this process. Finally, centralisation of jurisdiction by means of more extensive and detailed regional policy packages has led to increasing fiscal dependence of regions on European Community funding.
