Роман «Цивилиzации» (2019) описывает альтернативную историю открытия Америки: инки во главе с легендарным Атауальпой прибывают в Старый/Новый Свет и становятся завоевателями, политическими стратегами, реформаторами — и даже антропологами, когда пытаются расшифровать ритуалы и перенять обычаи коренных народов Европы. В романе фигурируют император Карл V и представители королевских династий Европы первой половины XVI века, священник Мартин Лютер, банкир Антон Фуггер, мыслители Томас Мор и Эразм Роттердамский, воин и будущий литератор Мигель де Сервантес. Автор экспериментирует, соединяя литературные жанры — скандинавский эпос, дневники, письма, поэзию, авантюрный роман. Книга ставит под сомнение, если не опровергает, наши предрассудки в отношении иерархии цивилизаций, при этом автор соблюдает точность в репрезентации исторического фона происходящих событий.
