I am Alissa. I like school. I like reading. But I must obey my father. I must go to the city. I am afraid.

* * * My new home is a small and dark room. I work in a house. I cook and clean and wash. I work fifteen hours a day. The house owner shouts at me every day. I am very unhappy. I cry every night.

* * * I work in a clothes shop. I make clothes with five other girls. We work twelve hours a day. At night, we sleep on the floor.
