Милдред Тэйлор Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry
ISBN: 9780141354873 Год издания: 2022 Издательство: Puffin Аннотация
Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is the classic story of a girl growing up in the deep South. Set in Mississippi at the height of the American Depression, this is the story of a family's struggle to maintain their integrity, pride and independence against the forces of a cruelly racist society.
'We have no choice of what colour we're born or who our parents are or whether we're rich or poor. What we do have is some choice over what we make of our lives once we're here.'
The Mississippi of the 1930s was a hard place for a black child to grow up in, but still Cassie didn't understand why farming his own land meant so much to her father. During that year, though, when the night riders were carrying hatred and destruction among her people, she learned about the great differences that divided them, and when it was worth fighting for a principle even if it brought terrible hardships.
Winner of the highly prestigious John Newbery Medal in the USA in 1977. -

The saga of the Logan family--made famous in the Newbery Medal-winning Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry--concludes.
In her tenth book, Mildred Taylor completes her saga about the Logan family of Mississippi, which is also the story of the civil rights movement in America of the 20th century. Cassie Logan, first met in Song of the Trees and Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, is a young woman now, searching for her place in the world, a journey that takes her from Toledo to California, to law school in Boston, and, ultimately, in the 60s, home to Mississippi
to participate in voter registration. She is witness to the now-historic events of the century: the Great Migration north, the rise of the civil rights movement, preceded and precipitated by the racist society of America, and the often violent confrontations that brought about change. -

ISBN: 0142501468 Год издания: 2003 Издательство: Speak Язык: Английский Аннотация
The son of a prosperous landowner and a former slave, Paul-Edward Logan is unlike any other boy he knows. His white father has acknowledged him and raised him openly-something unusual in post-Civil War Georgia. But as he grows into a man he learns that life for someone like him is not easy. Black people distrust him because he looks white. White people discriminate against him when they learn of his black heritage. Even within his own family he faces betrayal and degradation. So at the age of fourteen, he sets out toward the only dream he has ever had: to find land every bit as good as his father's, and make it his own. Once again inspired by her own history, Ms. Taylor brings truth and power to the newest addition to the award-winning Logan family stories. -

ISBN: 014034893X, 9780140348934 Год издания: 1991 Издательство: Dial Press Язык: Английский Аннотация
Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is a 1976 children's novel by Mildred D. Taylor, sequel to her 1975 Song of the Trees.
Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry was first published in 1976, and won the Newbery Medal in 1977. It is set in 1936 , in Mississippi--during the Great Depression. Poverty is a fact of life for many of the book's characters. Although the Logans own their own land, many in the black community are sharecroppers.
The 'Berry Burnings' mentioned in chapter 1 and Mr. Tatum who was tarred and feathered in chapter 4 are examples of lynch mobs and nightmen taking the law into their own hands, at the expense of the black population.
