This was published after the death of James Oliver Curwood. He had only completed the first hundred pages. There were 3 attempts to complete the story after his death. According to the publisher's note, the first two efforts were discarded and the 3rd was issued as a serial in the September, October, November 1929 issues of McCall's Magazine. Then the book was rewritten and issued in 1930 as you see it here. The first 6 chapters are Curwood's writing and the rest of the book was completed by Dorothea Bryant.
