A. Doyle Conan (22 May 1859 - 7 July 1930) Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle DL was a Scottish physician and writer, most noted for his stories about the detective Sherlock Holmes, generally considered a milestone in the field of crime fiction, and for the adventures of Professor Challenger. He was a prolific writer whose other works include science fiction stories, plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction, historical novels and humours.

It is an old maxim of mine that when you have excluded the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. Sherlock Holmes, scourge of criminals everywhere, whether they be lurking in London's foggy backstreets or plotting behind the walls of an idyllic country mansion, and his faithful colleague Dr Watson solve twelve breathtaking and perplexing mysteries. In "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes", the first collection of the great consulting detective's cases, we encounter some of his most famous and devilishly difficult problems, including "A Scandal in Bohemia", "The Speckled Band", "The Red-Headed League", "The Blue Carbuncle", "The Five Orange Pips" and "The Man with the Twisted Lip".

Sherlock Holmes was transformed when he was hot upon such a scent as this. Men who had only known the quiet thinker and logician of Baker Street would have failed to recognize him. His face flushed and darkened. His brows were drawn into two hard black lines, while his eyes shone out from beneath them with a steely glitter.' Set against the foggy, mysterious backdrops of London and the English countryside, these are the first twelve stories ever published to feature the infamous Detective Sherlock Holmes and his side kick Doctor Watson. They first appeared as stories in the Strand Magazine

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is the series of short stories that made the fortunes of the Strand magazine in which they were first published, and won immense popularity for Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson. The detective is at the height of his powers and the volume is full of famous cases, including "The Red-Headed League", "The Blue Carbuncle", and "The Speckled Band". Although Holmes gained a reputation for infallibility, Doyle showed his own realism and feminism by having the great detective defeated by Irene Adler — the woman — in the very first story, "A Scandal in Bohemia".

Through the foggy streets of Victorian London to the deepest countryside, the world's most famous private detective, Sherlock Holmes, and his trusty companion Dr Watson attempt to solve the unsolvable. Using his astounding methods of deduction, Holmes outwits the most cunning of thieves and most villainous of murderers in some of his best-known cases including "The Speckled Band" and "Silver Blaze". This title features sixteen original classic Sherlock Holmes adventures.
