Sartor Resartus ("The Tailor Retailored") is ostensibly an introduction to a strange history of clothing by the German Professor of Things in General, Diogenes Teufelsdrockh; its deeper concerns are social injustice, the right way of living in the world, and the large questions of faith and understanding. This edition is the first to present the text as it originally appeared, indicating the changes Carlyle made to later editions. Appendices contain Carlyle's own extensive commentaries on his work.

Sartor Resartus — роман Томаса Карлейля. Название переводится с латыни как «Перекроенный портной». Впервые был опубликован частями в 1833—1834 годах. Написан в форме комментария к мыслям и биографии вымышленного немецкого философа Диогена Тёйфельсдрёка, автора труда «Одежда: её происхождение и влияние», но на самом деле Sartor Resartus — это т. н. роман о романе. Трансценденталистские размышления Тёйфельсдрёка сопровождаются оценкой скептического английского Издателя, а также обрывками из биографии философа. Книга частично является пародией на Гегеля и на немецкий идеализм вообще.
