The doctors said no more could be done and advised Grace's parents to put her away.

On her first day at the Briar Mental Institute, Grace, aged eleven, meets Daniel.

Debonair Daniel, an epileptic who can type with his feet, sees a different Grace: someone to share secrets and canoodle with, someone to fight for.

A deeply affecting, spirit-soaring story of love against the odds.

Второе место.

Micka tells of the bleak story of two young boys, Micka and Laurie, who are both dealing with extremely difficult family circumstances. Just ten years old, Micka has no model for life: his violent, older brother Lee is in and out of prison, his illiterate mother can't stop drinking, and he has barely enough food and clothes to keep him going. Laurie's parents have split up, and while he's from a more comfortable background, the 11-year-old has absorbed few positive life lessons - his mother is unpredictable, verging on disturbed. His burgeoning friendship with Micka is fast bringing out the worst in both boys.Kay Frances is a playwright, script editor, and children's author. Despite being written from the alternating point of view of two boys, the novel is very much an adult read.
